I inspired the idea from an old Japanese hand-tinted photograph. For this special photograph produced in Japan, they took a photograph with a monochromatic tone and colored it on that actual photograph. The purpose of this photograph is to produce a souvenir for foreigners. At that moment, Japan was a strange and fantastic place for Westerners. Even a scene from everyday life that was common to Japanese people was strange to Westerners and became the object of admiration.

According to my research, I think I am a stranger in the United States right now. Basically, I am not an American, and I am from South Korea. If my daily habit or common everyday life is interesting to other people who are not familiar with my country, this would be the same as the fantasy I was talking about in the previous paragraph. In this photo work, I acted common everyday life and printed it out with a sepia tone. After that, I hand-colored my self-portrait with a colored pencil. Through this experience, I created a new version of a souvenir for everyone who is not familiar with my culture and country.
